About & beliefs
We have met on Station Road since 1884, and we are still doing the same few things. We have met on Station Road since 1884.
Around 150 people gather here each Sunday — families with young children, students from the college, and members who have known this church for fifty years. We sing, we pray, and we spend most of our time listening to the Bible read and explained.
You are welcome whatever you believe and however long it has been. Nobody will ask you to sign anything, give anything, or say anything out loud.
Our minister
Minister since 2014. Happy to meet for coffee or answer a question by email — david@emmanuelbaptist.org.
What we believe
The Bible
God's word, and the final authority for what we teach and how we live. We work through a book of it a passage at a time.
Jesus Christ
Crucified and risen; the one through whom anyone may come to God. This is the centre of everything we do here.
Baptism
By full immersion, for those old enough to profess faith for themselves. We baptise two or three times a year.
The church meeting
Decisions are made together by the members, not by one person. We are part of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
Our full statement of faith is available as a one-page PDF.
